  3. West Virginia covered electronic device manufacturer takeback (W. Va. Code §22-15A-26)State program · West VirginiaOpen to everyoneConditions applyFree
    How it works

TV and computer makers registered with WVDEP may run takeback programs that let consumers recycle their brand of covered electronic device (TVs, computers and display devices with screens over 4 inches) with no recycling fee, often by free mail-back label. Not every maker has to run one: check WVDEP's list of brands with approved free takeback programs.

    Cost & rules
    • Only brands on WVDEP's list of approved free takeback programs; use that maker's mail-back, collection site or event.
    • Desktops and laptops with their monitors; mice, printers and detachable keyboards are not covered.
  4. West Virginia PSC monthly bulky goods collection (regulated trash haulers)State program · West VirginiaWest Virginia residentsConditions applyCost not listed
    How it works

Public Service Commission rules require every regulated solid waste hauler to offer regularly scheduled monthly bulky goods collection to all households in its territory, covering appliances (including refrigerators, washers, dryers and microwaves), TVs, home computers, furniture and tires off the rim. Haulers mail the schedule yearly; ask your hauler. City-run trash services may follow their own rules.

    Cost & rules
    • For households with a PSC-regulated trash hauler; ask the hauler for the monthly bulky goods schedule.

Before you go

  1. List each device and describe any damage to the operator.
  2. Back up your files and erase the device using the maker’s instructions.
  3. Ask whether documented data destruction is offered and what it costs.
