  3. Texas Recycles Computers (manufacturer computer take-back)State program · TexasConditions applyFree
    How it works

Under state law, every manufacturer selling computers in Texas must run a free, convenient take-back program (often mail-back) for its own brand of desktops, laptops, monitors, keyboards and mice used at home. TCEQ lists participating manufacturers; texasrecyclescomputers.org links to each program.

    Cost & rules
    • Each manufacturer only has to take its own brands (desktops, laptops, monitors, plus a same-brand keyboard and mouse). For other or unbranded computers, check which manufacturers accept other brands.
    • Only computers bought for personal or home-business use, regardless of age.
    • Wipe your data first: you are responsible for information left on the computer.

Before you go

  1. List each device and describe any damage to the operator.
  2. Back up your files and erase the device using the maker’s instructions.
  3. Ask whether documented data destruction is offered and what it costs.
