    How it works

TDEC points residents to Call2Recycle to find a drop-off site for rechargeable batteries and cell phones. Call2Recycle takes nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, lithium-ion and small sealed lead batteries. In Tennessee, lithium, Ni-Cd and NiMH batteries must not go in the trash; alkaline batteries may. TDEC does not say whether drop-off is free.

    Cost & rules
    • Cell phones only, at Call2Recycle drop-off locations found on its website.

Before you go

  1. List each device; operators often price printers, phones and audio equipment differently.
  2. Erase phones and remove memory cards before you drop them off.
  3. Ask whether there’s a per-pound or per-item fee.
