    How it works

Mississippi law requires stores that sell new or reusable tires to accept the customer's used tires when new tires are bought, at least as many as are purchased. The store may charge a disposal fee per tire sold, but not more than its actual disposal cost, and it may not waive that fee even if the customer keeps the old tires. The law does not require stores to take tires without a purchase. A separate $1 ($2 for 24-inch and larger rims) waste tire fee is charged on new tires at wholesale.

    Cost & rules
    • Only when you buy new or reusable tires from the retailer, and only up to the number of tires bought.
    • The retailer may charge a disposal fee per tire sold, capped at its actual disposal cost, and may not waive it if you keep your old tires.

Before you go

  1. Ask whether tires on rims cost more.
  2. Check per-tire fees and how many you can bring at once.
