    How it works

Under LDEQ's waste tire rules, Louisiana tire dealers must take one waste tire for every new tire sold, at the time of sale, unless the buyer keeps it. Every new tire carries an LDEQ Waste Tire Fee ($2.25 passenger/light truck, $5 medium truck, $10 off-road, $1.25 recap), charged whether or not you leave the old tire. Without a purchase, no rule requires a dealer to take tires.

LDEQ Waste Tire Fee, per recapped or retreaded tire bought$1.25
    • Only when you buy new tires: the dealer takes one old tire for each tire sold, at the time of sale. The fee is charged whether or not you leave your old tires.
    • The fee also applies to designated spare, recall and adjustment, ATV and UTV tires. No fee on tires of 500 lb or more, solid tires, or lawn mower, bicycle and golf cart tires.
    • The fee must be listed on its own invoice line as the "LDEQ Waste Tire Fee", with no tax added.
