    How it works

Connecticut mattress stewardship program (Public Act 13-42) run by the Mattress Recycling Council with CT DEEP oversight since May 2015. Most town transfer stations take part and let town residents drop off mattresses for free; town participation is voluntary, so check the Bye Bye Mattress locator or your recycling coordinator.

    Cost & rules
    • Mattresses used in Connecticut, in recyclable condition, no matter when bought; crib mattresses count. Futons, sofa beds and stripped mattresses are not covered.
    • Town participation is voluntary; most participating transfer stations take only their own town's residents. Check the Bye Bye Mattress locator or your recycling coordinator.
    • Damaged, soiled, wet or infested units: contact the site first; fees may apply.

Before you go

  1. Count each piece separately: mattress, box spring and topper can be priced differently.
  2. Check for moisture, mold or bed bugs; many recyclers refuse damaged bedding.
  3. Confirm per-piece pricing and whether wrapping or an appointment is required.
